Not that it matters much, but USC lost its top ranking in the polls to Alabama this week. The Trojans could care less at this point as they head across country to face Syracuse on Saturday at MetLife Stadium, the home of the NY Jets and Giants. USC is a 26-point favorite on WagerWeb.com.

Southern Cal had no trouble in its opener, beating Hawaii 49-10 in L.A. on Saturday. WR Marqise Lee caught 10 passes for 197 yards and returned a kickoff 100 yards for a score. QB Matt Barkley kicked off his Heisman Trophy campaign with 372 yards passing and four touchdowns for the Trojans. Silas Redd rushed for 57 yards and a touchdown on a team-leading nine carries in the Penn State transfer’s debut at USC, which led 35-0 at halftime and coasted to its 15th consecutive season-opening victory.

The Orange, meanwhile, lost a thriller 42-41 at home vs. Northwestern. The Orange scored 28 unanswered points after being down 35-13 midway through the third quarter. Senior quarterback Ryan Nassib had a record-breaking game against the Wildcats, setting the SU single-game records for completions (45), attempts (66), and yards (482). Nassib also tied the Big East single-game completion record and broke the Big East single-game attempts record.

These two teams played in L.A. last year, a 38-17 USC victory. Barkley passed for 324 yards and a school record-tying five touchdowns to five different receivers. Barkley completed 26 of 39 passes without being intercepted. Robert Woods caught eight passes for 82 yards and a touchdown for the Trojans.

Nassib completed his first 11 passes for 74 yards, but finished 25 of 37 for 230 yards for the outmanned Orange. The Trojans piled up 501 yards in total offense to 331 for the Orange.

Although this is a neutral site contest hosted by Syracuse, USC has won a school-record 14 consecutive non-conference road games (that figure does not include 9 neutral site victories and a neutral site loss). This will be USC’s first visit to the greater NYC area since 2000.

Trojans are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 neutral site games. Trojans are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a S.U. win. Trojans are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a ATS loss. Orange are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games following a S.U. loss.
