The Crimson Tide didn’t start the season at No. 1 despite being the defending national champions, but after dismantling Michigan 41-14 in their opening game they took over the top spot on that list. Alabama then blasted Western Kentucky 35-0 over the weekend.
That laugher against the Hilltoppers saw Crimson Tide quarterback A.J. McCarron go an efficient 14 of 19 for 219 yards with four touchdown strikes, with Kevin Norwood and Christion Jones catching two TD passes apiece on the day for Alabama.
That result wasn’t quite good enough for Alabama supporters on the college football betting lines at Bovada, however, as they’d been favored by 38 points over Western Kentucky. The Tide are 2-0 SU, 1-1 ATS, and 1-1 on the OVER/UNDER this season.
As for Arkansas, they’re coming off a disastrous 34-31 home loss to Louisiana-Monroe, with starting quarterback Tyler Wilson knocked out of that game with an injury. That dropped the Razorbacks from No. 8 to unranked in this week’s AP Poll, and unless they can beat Alabama on Saturday afternoon their chances at getting to a BCS game are zero. It’s not yet clear if Wilson will play Saturday so there is no line posted yet at Bovada.
The Razorbacks beat Jacksonville State 49-24 in Week 1; they’re 0-2 ATS this season.
Looking at the trends, Alabama has beaten Arkansas in each of their last five meetings, covering the posted spread in three of those games – including last year’s 38-14 home win as a 12.5-point favorite on the college football odds. That game was an OVER result.
