Football comes in many flavors. I’m not just talking about the obvious differences between what Americans call soccer and the sacred sport that plays itself a top the gridiron on any given Sunday, at least when it’s in season. It doesn’t get any bigger that America’s game, especially when it comes to football betting, but the road to the Super Bowl starts way before week one of the season. You simply can’t discount the significance of college or even high school level matchups.
American football is kind of a peculiar sport, though definitely less so than its European and African counterparts. Sure, I’ve never been a fan of games that prohibit a man or woman from using his or her hands, but apparently the world is all about disagreeing with me. Are you a football betting man?
Due to the intensity of the sport—can you say concussion?—children are usually introduced to a safer near approximation version of the game such as flag football. This is a good way to learn most of the rules and fundamentals without compromising safety.
By the time potential players reach high school, their bodies are ready for the abuse. That’s when shoulder pads, helmets, and jock straps become mere tools for survival. It’s hard for foreigners to fathom, but amateur contests can attract over 100,000 spectators. That’s not a television or internet audience, but the number of people who find their way into the stadium to take in the live match. Just imagine how many of those people are at the game to add an almost surreal element to their football betting. Internationally known schools like Texas, Michigan State, Pennsylvania State, Alabama, and Ohio State all routinely crack the 100K mark, but even lesser schools routinely attract more than 50,000 fans. That isn’t a typo. Not that it wants to be.
