The are riding high right now after throttling Georgia last week to rise to No. 3 in the polls, their highest ranking in 28 years. But the test gets tougher this week as USC tries to win at night in Baton Rouge, which almost no one does. And LSU, off a loss to Florida, is a 3-point favorite on Vegassportsbetting.com. in a matchup that features two of the nation’s top defenses.

USC dominated Georgia 35-7 in Columbia. Connor Shaw threw two touchdown passes and ran for another, Ace Sanders had a 70-yard punt return touchdown and South Carolina’s defense dominated Georgia.

South Carolina grounded “Gurshall,” holding Georgia’s stellar freshmen Todd Gurley and Keith Marshall to 76 yards combined.

The Bulldogs finished with 224 yards, less than half their season’s average coming in. Georgia came in with a league-leading 48.2 points and 536 yards per game of offense — and where shut down by the Gamecocks. UGA’s 224 total yards was its fewest in six years. It barely avoided its first shutout since 1995.

Marcus Lattimore ran for 109 yards on 24 carries against Georgia. It was his third straight 100-yard game against the Bulldogs. He has never faced LSU. South Carolina has won a school-record 10 straight games, now the longest streak in the nation.

The Gamecocks are off to a 6-0 start for the first time since 1988 and for just the third time in school history (also 1984). They have been 7-0 just once in their history (1984).

The Tigers had their 18-game regular-season winning streak snapped in a 14-6 loss at Florida. The defense played well — it had five sacks in the first half, helping the Tigers hold Florida to 81 total yards and no points at the break — but the offense could do nothing.

QB Zach Mettenberger completed 11-of-25 passes for 161 yards, with an interception. LSU finished with 42 yards rushing, three more than what Alabama held the Tigers to in last season’s BCS title game. The Tigers were 1 of 13 on third downs and finished with just eight first downs — three on penalties.

This will be the first meeting between the Tigers and Gamecocks since 2008 when LSU rallied for a 24-17 win in Columbia. LSU brings the nation’s longest home field winning streak at a school-record 21 straight in Tiger Stadium.

LSU’s last loss in Tiger Stadium came on Oct. 10, 2009 to top-ranked Florida, 13-3. Since that loss to Florida, the Tigers have reeled off the 21 consecutive home wins with 15 of those coming by double-figures.

LSU coach Les Miles is 17-1 in games following a loss, which includes a 6-0 record when a road loss in followed by a game in Tiger Stadium. In its last 12 games vs. SEC teams, LSU’s defense has allowed only 10 TDs and 16 field goals. Florida is the only SEC team during that span to score more than one TD against the LSU defense.

Vegas trends: Gamecocks are 7-0 ATS in their last 7 games following a S.U. win. Gamecocks are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games following a ATS win. Gamecocks are 6-0 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.

Gamecocks are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games overall. Tigers are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games following a ATS loss. Tigers are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 conference games. Tigers are 9-4 ATS vs. a team with a winning record. Tigers are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games overall.
