It’s the biggest game in years in the Stanford-Notre Dame rivalry on Saturday night as the Irish look to keep their national championship hopes alive. And ND is an 8-point favorite on Vegassportsbetting.com

Stanford bounced back from an upset loss to Washington with a wild 54-48 overtime win over Arizona last week. Josh Nunes threw for a career-high 360 yards and two touchdowns and ran for three more scores, rallying the Cardinal from a two-touchdown deficit.

Chase Thomas intercepted a tipped pass by Arizona’s Matt Scott in the extra period and Stepfan Taylor ran for a 21-yard touchdown two plays later for the win. However, the Wildcats became the first team to eclipse 400 yards passing against the Cardinal since Oklahoma in the 2009 Sun Bowl.

Notre Dame (5-0) routed Miami 41-3 in Chicago last week. Cierre Wood (118) and George Atkinson III (123) combined for over 200 yards rushing and 3 TDs between them. The Irish improved to 5-0 for the first time since 2002. Their 587 yards of offense was a season high, and their 376 yards rushing was their most since Nov. 11, 2000.

Wood had 118 yards rushing and two touchdowns, and Atkinson added 123 yards and another score. QB Everett Golson, who sat the first series as punishment for showing up late for practice, completed his first six passes and finished 17 of 22 for 186 yards passing. He also ran for 51 yards.

Notre Dame’s defense held Miami 285 yards after the Hurricanes had piled up 1,260 yards and 86 points in their previous two games. The Irish defense continues to dominate. Notre Dame has given up 3 TDs through 5 games after not allowing a TD to the U.

The Irish rank among the top-20 Football Bowl Subdivision defenses in nine different categories, including scoring defense, red zone defense, pass efficiency defense, total defense, first downs defense, interceptions, turnovers forced, rush defense and sacks.

This is the 27th meeting between these schools. The Irish lead the series, 17-9, including 10-3 at Notre Dame Stadium. The Cardinal carry a three-game winning streak in the series into this weekend’s meeting. Stanford had never beaten the Irish in back-to-back meetings in series history prior to this recent stretch.
