EMU (1-7, 0-4) enters off a 24-3 loss at Bowling Green on Saturday. Eastern Michigan, which had gained 1,201 yards in its past two games, was held to 178 by the Falcons. The Eagles were led by sophomore quarterback Tyler Benz, who went 11 of 24 for 114 yards. But he had a fumble and an interception which led to seven BGSU points.

Tight end Tyreese Russell led the Eagles in receiving with two receptions for 50 yards, while Bronson Hill led EMU on the ground with 57 yards on 13 carries. Defensively, Alex Bellfy led the Eagles with 15 tackles alongside Andy Malumba, who recorded two tackles for loss including a sack.

Ohio (7-1, 3-1) was upset 23-20 by Miami of Ohio, the first of the season for Ohio and the first time the Bobcats had lost to the RedHawks since the 2005 season. After allowing 309 yards of total offense in the first two quarters, Ohio’s defense clamped down in the second half and only yielded 115 in the final 30 minutes of the game.

Miami’s defense also had a strong showing on Saturday, generating a season-high six sacks for a combined loss of 44 yards. Ohio’s Tyler Tettleton had a strong day through the air, completing 23 of his 38 attempts for 302 yards.

Miami scored the final points of the game with 1:24 left on the clock, driving down the field for a deciding 31-yard field goal. The Bobcats had a chance to tie or take the lead with nine seconds left and the ball on Miami’s 7-yard line, but Tettleton was sacked by Miami’s Wes Williams, resulting in the final seconds dripping off the clock.

Ohio and Eastern Michigan will be meeting for the 29th time in school history. The Bobcats hold a 16-11-1 edge in the series, including winning the last four meetings dating back to the 2002 campaign.

The Eagles’ last victory over the Bobcats occurred Oct. 16, 1999, when EMU escaped with a 27-26 victory after the OU extra-point attempt was blocked with 1:06 remaining in the contest. Eastern Michigan’s last victory at Peden Stadium was almost 18 years ago, Nov. 12, 1994, when EMU rolled to a 24-13 victory.
