The Florida Gators likely saw the national championship hopes disappear in last week’s loss to Georgia, and the Gators also no longer control their own destiny to reach the SEC title game.
How will they recover in a potential trap game Saturday vs. Missouri? The Gators are 15.5-point favorites on Vegassportsbetting.com.
UF (7-1, 6-1) lost 17-9 to the Dawgs. The teams combined for nine turnovers, but the Dawgs didn’t have any after halftime, while the Gators had three. Georgia linebacker Jarvis Jones knocked the ball out of Jordan Reed’s hands at the Dawgs’ 5-yard line, and teammate Sanders Commings recovered in the end zone with 2:05 left.
It was the first time since 1988 that UGA held the Gators without a touchdown. QB Jeff Driskel, who completed 14 of 26 passes for 185 yards, lost another fumble, threw two interceptions and was sacked five times.
Missouri (4-4, 1-4) beat Kentucky 33-10 for its first-ever SEC win. got touchdowns off all three of Kentucky’s lost fumbles and quarterback James Franklin presided over a strong finish in a reserve role coming off a knee injury. Kendial Lawrence ran for 108 yards on 23 carries with two TDs for Missouri.
The game was still up for grabs, with Missouri leading 17-10 midway through the third quarter, when Franklin got the call. Freshman Dorial Green-Beckham caught two passes on the go-ahead drive, the first receptions for the nation’s top recruit last winter since catching an 80-yard touchdown pass against Central Florida in Week 5.
Mizzou held Kentucky to just 179 yards of total offense, and just 9 first downs, and the offense took advantage of good field position to post the biggest point total of the season against an FBS foe. Mizzou and Florida have met only one other time on the gridiron, and that meeting took place in the 1966 Sugar Bowl, when Dan Devine’s Tigers claimed a 20-18 win over the Gators and their eventual Heisman Trophy QB Steve Spurrier.
To win the SEC East, Florida would need a win over Missouri to close out SEC play and have Georgia lose one of its final two league games, either at home vs. Ole Miss on Saturday or at Auburn the following week.
Vegas trends: Tigers are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 conference games. Tigers are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games after allowing less than 20 points in their previous game.
