2016 Summer Olympics: Soccer Odds

[ad_1]

Brazil is just two years removed as hosts of the 2014 FIFA World Cup and set to yet again, host a major international soccer tournament. Although teams are restricted to sending only three players who are the over the age of 23, there should still be plenty of star power with the likes of Neymar, Mario Gotze and Sergio Aguero all expected to suit up for their countries.

Betting on the Olympic soccer can be an interesting endeavor as there is far less information available about teams and players. If you’re looking for action, though, head over to Bodog to bet on some futures and keeping checking OddsShark for previews and odds.

Brazil has unsurprisingly been tagged as the favorite to take home gold as hosts of the Rio Olympic Soccer Tournament and will be pretty motivated to do so after their embarrassing exit from the 2014 World Cup. The Brazilians finished runners-up to Mexico at the 2012 games in a 2-1 penalty shot loss. Despite being the favorites, Brazil has never won soccer gold at the Olympics.

Germany and Argentina will both give Brazil a run for their money as they have quality programs that boast a wealth of young talent. +575 seems like decent value for a German side that could draw inspiration from their 7-1 semifinal defeat of Brazil en route to their 2014 World Cup victory.

The men’s soccer tournament is always unpredictable so it may pay off to sprinkle a couple dark horse teams like Mexico (+1400), and Nigeria (+2000). Mexico came away winners in 2012 so +1400 seems like serious value for a team with gold medal experience.

Women’s Soccer

Since women’s soccer was introduced to the Olympics back in 1996, the US Women’s team has won gold all but once. They will head into Rio this year as plus money favorites and based on their history, +150 might offer some serious value.

The Americans toughest game in London came in their semifinal against the Canadians in which they moved on with a 4-3 win after extra time. USA tied the game late when they earned a free-kick after a controversial call. Team Canada is +1200 this year after a poor showing as hosts at the Women’s World Cup last year.

Germany is right behind the US in the FIFA Women’s World Rankings at number two and has been tagged with a +320 line to take gold. It’s not quite enough value for me in a tournament like this with a team that didn’t even qualify in 2012 and has never finished higher than third.
