When the Ronda Rousey vs Holly Holm matchup was announced for UFC 195 on Friday veteran UFC observers figured Holm would be a 6-1 or 7-1 underdog at the online sportsbooks.
And while some sportsbooks opened in that range, one immediately offered a more lucrative payout on the former boxing champ to defeat the UFC women’s Bantamweight champion.
Online sportsbook 5Dimes, almost always the first to open odds on major betting events, had Holm listed at +950 (a nearly 10-1 longshot) at open on Friday.
The price on Rousey was higher as well, at -1450 at 5Dimes. That means risking $145 just to turn a $10 profit – a steep price indeed.
But with Rousey dominating the division and with Holm basically admitting recently that she wasn’t ready to challenge for the title, the odds are stacked high.
“Let’s let her get a couple fights and start to feel like the UFC is her house and home, and move up in the rankings and get some fights,” UFC president Dana White told MMAJunkie back in March. “She’s got some time to get there.”
Holm said after her July win over Marion Reneau that she was in no rush for a Rousey title fight and that she thought she needed more seasoning in MMA.
Tis the season, as January 2 in Las Vegas she will get a chance to beat the UFC 195 odds.
