Dodgers -255

The three best teams in the National League all reside in the NL West at the moment. Colorado Rockies just wrapped up a three-game set with one of them, losing the last two of a three-game set to the Diamondbacks.

Now they are following it up with a weekend series against the hottest team in the Major Leagues, the first place Los Angeles Dodgers.

Colorado has held that mantle at various points in the past few weeks and have had a terrific month of June in their own right with a 14-6 record.

The offense has been on fire averaging a sterling 5.95 RPG. The pitching staff has a 4.70 ERA good for sixth in the NL in a month when scoring is up across the league.

The Rockies as a team are hitting .302 in June so there are multiple players having outstanding months. No one is hotter than Nolan Arenado (.361-3-25), but DJ LeMahieu (.356-1-18) is giving him a run for his money. There are six players with at least ten RBIs this month and seven who have scored at least ten runs.

Los Angeles comes into the series winners of seven straight and 13 out of 14 games. The recent run has been against struggling teams, the Reds and Mets. The previous streak includes two of three wins against the Indians and another sweep of the Reds.

The Dodgers have been almost as good as the Rockies, scoring 5.65 RPG in June.  The pitching staff is sporting a 3.75 ERA on the month which is second best in the league.

Justin Turner is red-hot since returning from injury (.415-4-10). He leads three regulars hitting over .300 this month and there are five with at least ten RBIS.

The Dodgers have been great at home with a 29-10 record, but the Rockies have the best road record in the National League with a 25-13 record heading into the weekend.

Tyler Chatwood (6-7, 4.08 ERA) is on a roll with four straight quality starts and six out of his last seven. He’s allowed five runs in those four starts and 26 innings pitched.

Clayton Kershaw (10-2, 2.61 ERA) was roughed up in his last start allowing six runs in 6.1 innings in a 10-6 win over the Mets. But he’s been as dominant as ever with four runs allowed in his three previous starts. The Dodgers have won his last nine starts.

Cash It In: The Dodgers are hefty -255 favorites, the Rockies +215 underdogs. Chatwood lost his last start to the Dodgers, 5-2 back on May 12th, but I like his chances here for a strong start and the Rockies offense to do just enough to earn a win. Rockies 3-2.
