MLB Picks and Parlays: New York Mets Continue Their Series in Washington
by Matt Cash @MattCashCapper
New York Mets will try to salvage a win and snap a three-game losing streak in their series finale in Washington on Wednesday. They had their four-game winning streak snapped on Sunday at home to Philadelphia before dropping the first two of this series.
Washington Nationals has now won three in a row after dropping three in a row. They won their finale in St Louis before meeting the Mets. They’ve now outscored their opponents 21-8 in the process.
On Tuesday, they romped over New York 11-4. The teams were all knotted at two after four innings before the Nationals offense kicked it into high gear scoring seven times in the fifth and sixth and never looking back.
Daniel Murphy has been incredible against his former team, hitting .405 against the Mets and he had four hits and five RBIs in this one. Bryce Harper was good for three hits and two RBIs.
The Nationals remain 8.5 games up on second-place Atlanta and 11.5 up on the Mets.
Washington has the best offense in the National League, averaging 5.52 RPG. The Mets are tied for sixth averaging 4.82 RPG.
On the defensive side the Nationals are fifth with a 4.09 ERA and New York is 14th with a 4.84 ERA.
Jason deGrom (8-3, 3.55 ERA) has been the Mets best starter this year by a long shot. He’s on four-game streak where he’s allowed just three earned runs in 32 innings of work. Last time out was a vintage performance in a 2-1 win over the Phillies. He allowed one run in seven innings of work with three hits allowed and 12 strike outs. He hasn’t allowed more than five hits in of those four starts and the Mets have won them all, and six of his last eight.
Tanner Roark (6-6, 5.27 ERA) has been arguably the Nationals least reliable pitcher this year. He has a career 3.34 ERA, but has really struggled since the calendar turned to June. The Nationals have lost his last five starts and he’s allowed 32 runs in 30.1 innings in his last six starts. Last time out he gave up three runs in three innings of an 8-1 loss to the Cardinals.
- NY Mets is 1-4 ATS in its last 5 games
NY Mets is 6-2 ATS in its last 8 games on the road
NY Mets is 2-5 ATS in its last 7 games when playing Washington
- Washington is 2-4 ATS in its last 6 games
Washington is 5-10 ATS in its last 15 games at home
Washington is 4-1 SU in its last 5 games at home
Cash It In: The Mets are -114 favorites and the Nationals -106 underdogs. The Nationals are clearly the superior team, but the pitching gap looms large in this one. The way deGrom is performing of late should be enough to propel the Mets to victory. Mets 6-2.
