Covers spoke to Peter Childs, oddsmaker for Sportsbook.ag, about which side and total is receiving the most support from bettors.
“We opened this game at a pick ’em and most of the early money was on Duke,” said Childs. “It was nothing significant, but when we hung pick at the conclusion of the Wisconsin-Kentucky Final Four game roughly 60 percent of the early money came in on Coach K’s squad.”
“But that changed Sunday morning as Wisconsin started generating a decent amount of support. As we started seeing more and more Wisconsin dollars, we made the Badgers -115 on the moneyline and -1 on the point spread. They were minor moves, but we’re looking to even out our position on the game,” the oddsmaker said.
“At that price, we’re literally dead even on the contest,” he said. “So far it’s all recreational play, as none of our sharp players have fired in yet. I could see the sharps coming in on Duke if we get to Wisconsin -1.5, but I very much doubt we’ll get off the current number of -1.”
Total-wise, the wiseguys at Sportsbook.ag are banking on the title game being a low-scoring affair.
“We opened the total at 141 and sharp money bet us Under,” Childs told Covers. “We only adjusted a half-point point down to 140.5 because even though we respect the sharp action, this game is like the Super Bowl where 99.9% of the action is recreational.”
“But just this morning we booked even more sharp money on the Under and moved it down a half-point again to 140. We fully expect Over money to pound this total as we get closer to game time, but we’re comfortable taking that cash at 140 knowing the sharps are on the Under.”
