Derryck Thornton is transferring from Duke, a source confirmed to CBS Sports on Sunday.
Scout.com reported Thornton will get a full release later this week.
Thornton’s departure from Mike Krzyzewski’s program had been rumored for weeks — mostly because the freshman point guard was likely going to be a reserve next season even though he started 20 games this season. That’s the result of Duke receiving a signed letter of intent from Frank Jackson — a five-star point guard who is, simply put, a superior option to Thornton.
Jackson is scheduled to enroll this summer.
Thornton averaged 7.1 points and 2.6 assists this season.
He was a five-star prospect from California coming out of high school.
