Alabama fired men’s basketball coach Anthony Grant on Sunday after the Crimson Tide missed the NCAA tournament for a third straight season.
“We are ultimately judged by wins and losses on the court,” Alabama athletic director Bill Battle said. “We haven’t made satisfactory progress in that area.”
Grant made one NCAA tournament appearance in six seasons at Alabama but never won an tournament game with the Crimson Tide. His team finished below .500 in the SEC this season for the second straight campaign, all while Bruce Pearl was creating momentum at rival Auburn and getting ready to enroll a nationally ranked recruiting class. Those things essentially combined to doom Grant in Tuscaloosa.
Alabama and DePaul are the best two jobs open at this moment.
