Andre McGee, accused of paying for escorts at UL, resigns at UMKC

Former Louisville director of basketball operations Andre McGee has tendered his resignation as assistant basketball coach at UMKC, the school announced on Friday.

McGee is currently the key figure at the center of the Louisville basketball scandal. Escort Katina Powell alleges in her book Breaking Cardinal Rules that McGee paid her to bring women to Billy Minardi Hall to dance and have sex with recruits and players at the university. CBS Sports’ own Gary Parrish reported that JaQuan Lyle, currently with Ohio State, basically confirmed the story for the NCAA. ESPN also published its own independent investigation yesterday that included five former players or recruits corroborating the story.

McGee released a statement through UMKC within the announcement.

“The university deserves a full-time assistant basketball coach and I am not able to provide that to the basketball team while the false allegations against me are being investigated,” McGee said.

This probably doesn’t need to be said, but it’s hard to see a circumstance where McGee ever works in college basketball again, given the events that have transpired over the last three weeks.
