Bruce Pearl landed his second five-star commitment at Auburn on Saturday afternoon, as Class of 2017 power forward Austin Wiley committed to the Tigers.
Scout.com reported the commitment and spoke to Wiley regarding his decision.
“It’s just the right fit,” Wiley explained as he was pulling up to campus. “Everything was just perfect.”
“It was just time,” he added.
Auburn has been the expected destination for Wiley for a while, as both of his parents played there. Still, this continues to build upon the momentum that Pearl has going at Auburn. Earlier this summer, he picked up a commitment from 2016 five-star small forward Mustapha Heron. The school also has a visit planned this weekend with Edrice “Bam” Adebayo, another five-star prospect in the class of 2016.
Wiley — from Birmingham — is the No. 21 prospect in the 2017 class according to 247Sports.com’s composite rankings. He’s a true big man who scores most of his buckets around the rim, and he’s working on a true back-to-the-basket game. However, the most intriguing part of him from a development standpoint is his frame, as he’s already a little bit over 6-9 with a 7-4 wingspan. Those measurements make him a legit NBA prospect down the road if he continues to improve.
There’s no doubt about it that Pearl is changing the culture around Auburn basketball. This is yet another example of why this program could be one to be reckoned with in the next couple of years.
