Well, this is certainly a holiday weekend that Bay Area basketball fans will never forget.

We were told to expect an announcement in the Kevin Durant free agency sweepstakes at some point over the weekend, and the bombshell dropped just before noon EST on July 4.

Former Oklahoma City Thunder megastar Kevin Durant is joining the Golden State Warriors. This newly formed super team now features Kevin Durant, Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green.

Prior to the news on July 4 the Warriors were already listed as the favorites to win the 2016-17 NBA championship at Westgate LV Superbook (7/4), but immediately following the announcement the Vegas book released new odds that have the Dubs at an astonishing 4/5 to win next year’s title.

Durant’s former team, the OKC Thunder, took a significant drop in the 2016-17 championship futures. Prior to losing their superstar forward the Thunder were available at 7/1 after their impressive playoff run, but now they are down to 30/1.

Warriors 4/5
Cavaliers 3/1
Spurs 8/1
Clippers 20/1
Celtics 20/1
Thunder 30/1
Raptors 40/1
Heat 50/1
Hawks 50/1
