Carolina Panthers at Washington Redskins – Open: -4.5; Move: -6; Move: -6.5; Move: -7
If the playoffs started today, Washington would be in as the NFC’s sixth seed. To remain in the picture, though, Jay Gruden’s squad will need to keep winning.
The Redskins (7-5-1 SU, 9-4 ATS) got a late touchdown at Philadelphia last week to claim a 27-22 victory as a 2-point favorite, keeping them firmly in the postseason hunt.
Defending NFC champion Carolina completely fell apart this season and has little but pride to play for tonight. The Panthers (5-8 SU, 4-8-1 ATS) beat San Diego 28-16 last week as a 1-point home fave.
“We definitely need the Panthers,” Stoneback said. “This opened at -4.5, now it’s up to -7 (-105). It made a 2-point move (midweek), from 4.5 to 6.5.”
The line hit 7 on Sunday afternoon and has remained there today.
“Sharp action, all of it,” Stoneback said of where the Redskins money is coming from, while noting he doesn’t see another line move before kickoff. “It’ll stay on 7. I don’t think it will come back to 6.5.”
BetNow also opened Washington at -4.5 and has seen the line go to -7, with Washington at even money and Carolina at +7 (-120). Getting a touchdown has proven attractive to Carolina backers today.
“The (late) action is all over the Panthers, with most of the money on the +7,” BetNow’s oddsmaker said. “On parlays and teasers, the action is heavier on the Redskins and the total to go over.”
Both BetNow and The Mirage opened the total at 51, and both are now at 50.5.
