Usually a slow month for boxing betting, August 2014 is busier than usual with numerous title fights and some interesting contender bouts. 5Dimes has boxing odds on numerous fights throughout the month including a big Heavyweight clash between two of the best young fighters in the division.
As the heavy favorite on August 1 Lucas Browne (20-0, 18 KO’s) will face Andriy Rudenko (24-0, 16 KO’s) for the WBA Inter-Continental title. Action on Browne to win comes with a -1500 price, while the Rudenko upset will pay +700 on the boxing betting lines.
On paper Rudenko should be the toughest test to date for Browne, but the Aussie favorite should have the technique to out-strike his opponent for what will likely be a KO victory. The upset payday has at least a puncher’s chance and could be worth the risk considering Rudenko has finished 16 or 24 opponents.
On August 2 undefeated Sergey Kovalev (24-0, 22 KO’s) is also handicapped as a -1500 favorite on the boxing odds to defend his WBO Light Heavyweight title against Blake Caparello (19-0-1, 6 KO’s). This fight is expected to be a day at the office for Kovalev, who should be able to beat down his opponent with far-superior power for an early-round KO win.
Even with a generous +700 payday on the boxing odds at 5Dimes the Caparello upset does not have much of a chance of happening. With only 6 KO wins in 19 fights, Caparello doesn’t have the power to threaten with the lucky punch possibility.
On August 6 boxing betting fans will be treated to a closely-handicapped re-match for the WBC Super Middleweight title. Back in December Anthony Dirrell (26-0-1, 22 KO’s) and Sakio Bika (32-5-3, 21 KO’s) fought to a draw and both will be looking to determine who should be wearing the belt. Boxing odds at 5Dimes have Dirrell listed as the -210 favorite while the Bika payday is worth +165.
