Syracuse played North Carolina tough, but still came away with a 75-70 loss in Chapel Hill on Monday night. In the grand scheme of things, it’s not a bad loss by any stretch, but it’s the third in four games for the Orange. They have another road game coming up before the ACC tournament at Florida State.
SYRACUSE: L 75-70 at North Carolina
Orange status: In for now | Record: 19-11, 9-8 ACC | RPI: 55 | SOS: 45
Syracuse is the only bubble team in action on Monday, so let’s take a look at the last four in and the first four out.
LAST FOUR IN
ST. BONAVENTURE: The Bonnies recently took a terrible loss to LaSalle, but they did win at St. Joseph’s, at home against George Washington, and most recently at Dayton. They should be favored in the rest of their games, which includes one with St. Joseph’s at home.
MICHIGAN: The Wolverines are 3-8 vs the top 50, but the wins are all pretty good ones. They have been without Caris LeVert and they aren’t the same without him. Michigan has a daunting schedule ahead. They have to be able to up their game with or without LeVert or the Wolverines won’t be on this list much longer.
VANDERBILT: Vanderbilt has had a disappointing season, but there have been a few highlights, like a win over Texas A&M. They won at Florida to complete a sweep of the Gators and get the Commodores’ first significant road win of the season. And most recently, they beat Kentucky. Suddenly, things are looking up, but they still have a trip to Texas A&M.
CINCINNATI: Cincinnati has a few wins over other teams on this list, including a sweep of UConn, and that could serve the Bearcats well if they’re still on this list themselves at the end of the season. Losing at Memphis and getting swept by Temple hurts though.
FIRST FOUR OUT
TULSA: The Golden Hurricane have some nice wins, including one at SMU and a few home games against other bubblers, most recently Temple. All they have left are games that can hurt them, like the one at Memphis, until the conference tournament.
VCU: The Rams gave away the outright A-10 lead in a loss to George Mason, which is their worst of the season. That makes two bad losses in the last couple of weeks, and VCU just hasn’t done enough to make up for that. Beating GW on the road has kept them in a tie for first and gives them another win over a fellow bubbler.
FLORIDA: Florida has played a strong schedule, but the loss count is starting to get high. Losing to Vanderbilt at home knocked them down to 7-10 vs the top 100 and is the Gators’ 11th loss overall. The loss at LSU makes 12. And now, Kentucky visits also coming off a loss.
GEORGE WASHINGTON: The Colonials have a few nice wins, including Virginia and Seton Hall, but also a few bad losses. They broke a two games losing streak with a win at Duquesne that was probably tougher than it should have been and then avenged an earlier loss to Richmond. They made up for beating VCU in Richmond by losing to them at home.
