Bracketology Bubble Tracker: Vandy likely out of NCAA tourney with loss

Vanderbilt most likely fell out of the NCAA Tournament when a last-second shot to tie Tennessee in the SEC tournament Thursday was waved off for being a little after the last second.

Jerry Palm’s projected bracket

That’s the third bad loss of the season for the Commodores, and they haven’t done enough to make up for that. They only have two top-50 wins, which came over Kentucky and Texas A&M at home.

PITT: L 88-71 vs. North Carolina

Status: Probably in

Update: Pitt let a lead get away at the end of the first half against North Carolina, and watched the game slip away in the second in an 88-71 loss to the Tar Heels. The Panthers aren’t a lock, but for now, have reason for optimism heading into Selection Sunday.

FLORIDA: W 68-61 vs. Arkansas

Status: Probably out

Update: Florida took care of Arkansas 68-61 to keep their slim tournament hopes alive for another day. That isn’t the only good news for the Gators. Florida center John Egbunu was able to play despite an injured thumb. The Gators can breathe new life into their chase to the bracket with a win over Texas A&M on Friday.

GEORGE WASHINGTON: W 73-65 vs. Saint Louis

Status: Probably in

Update: The Colonials did what they needed to do against Saint Louis on Thursday, coming away with a 73-65 win. GW will get a chance Friday to add to its sketchy tournament résumé when it faces Saint Joseph’s.

MICHIGAN: W 72-70 (OT) vs. Northwestern

Status: Probably out

Update: The Wolverines tried very hard to lose to the Wildcats on Thursday, even to the point of celebrating too soon at the end of OT and giving Northwestern another shot to tie or win. That shot didn’t fall, and Michigan lives to fight another day. The Wolverines will try to play themselves back into tournament contention when they face Indiana.
