Bracketology Bubble Tracker: VCU hosts critical contest vs. Davidson

>> More Bracketology: Bubble Watch | Compare any two teams

VCU is tied atop the A-10 standings with Saint Joseph’s and is hoping to maintain that position with a victory over the Wildcats on Wednesday. The Rams have only two top-50 wins and have yet to play Dayton.

They also have two bad losses, both of which have occurred in the past few weeks. There are no potential bad losses left on the schedule. Dayton is coming up next, so VCU can’t afford to get caught looking ahead.

VCU: vs. Davidson (7 p.m. ET, CBS Sports Network)

Status: On the fence

Record: 21-8, 13-3 Atlantic 10 | RPI: 47 | Strength of schedule: 80

ST. BONAVENTURE: vs. St. Joseph’s (7 p.m. ET)

Status: On the fence

Record: 20-7, 12-4 Atlantic 10 | RPI: 35 | Strength of schedule: 85

The Bonnies are one of the last four in the latest bracket and looking for a sweep of the Hawks in the regular season. St. Bonaventure will not be playing a true home game though. This game has been moved 100 miles away to Rochester, New York. The Bonnies have won eight of their past nine, but that loss was a doozy — at LaSalle.

ALABAMA: vs. Arkansas (9 p.m. ET, SEC Network)

Status: On the fence

Record: 17-11, 8-8 SEC | RPI: 57 | Strength of schedule: 31

Alabama has a decent chance to make the NCAA Tournament as long as it doesn’t shoot itself in the foot. The Crimson Tide have at least a few chances left to do that, including at home against Arkansas. There is no way for Alabama to play itself off the bubble and into the field before the conference tournament, but it can play its way off and into the NIT.

WISCONSIN: at Minnesota (9 p.m. ET, Big 10 Network)

Status: Probably in

Record: 19-10, 11-5 Big 10 | RPI: 31 | Strength of schedule: 9

Wisconsin has a plethora of bad losses already this season, but not during its current hot streak. The Badgers have had one of the most remarkable midseason turnarounds ever, but a loss to what’s left of the Gophers after a trio of suspensions would derail that. It would definitely be the worst loss of the season for Wisconsin, and no, I’m not forgetting that they lost to Western Illinois at home.

OREGON STATE: at Southern California (11 p.m. ET, FS1)

Status: Probably in

Record: 17-10, 8-8 PAC 12 | RPI: 30 | Strength of schedule: 5

Oregon State has six RPI top-50 wins, but they have all come at home. The Beavers’ inability to beat better teams away from home is the main reason why they are just 16-10. A sweep on this L.A. road trip would drop them to four games over .500 entering the conference tournament. That record is the bare minimum to make the NCAA Tournament, so getting a split this weekend would be huge for Oregon State.
