Bracketology: Xavier states No. 1 case with win; Nova stays on top line

Xavier took over the No. 2 overall seed with a 90-83 win over Villanova on Wednesday, avenging a blowout loss in Philadelphia earlier this season. The Musketeers now have the best record in basketball against Division I opposition at 25-3, including eight top-50 wins.

Jerry Palm’s projected bracket

Villanova will stay on the top line, dropping to No. 4 overall — but still a No. 1 — behind Oklahoma. The Wildcats suffered just their fourth loss of the season, the worst of which came at home to Providence. Villanova will likely not be ranked No. 1 in the polls when they come out again next week.

We may not be done with the shuffling. Oklahoma has the home version of the Bedlam game later Wednesday night. Either way, there will be a new bracket sometime after all of the action is over.
