Year in and year out, the landscape of the NBA changes significantly. Superstars jump ship (hi, Kevin Durant), coaches are put through a revolving door and epic playoff comebacks are becoming more frequent. But there is one constant every season: the New York Knicks being a joke.
I’m not trying to knock the Knicks, because their fan base will be the first to tell you the same thing. One of the most storied franchises in the history of the Association has become the laughingstock of the league over the past decade, as a cloud of drama seems to be perennially hovering over Madison Square Garden.
The latest rumor in the Big Apple is the fate of superstar Carmelo Anthony. Anthony, who’s been a Knick since 2011, has drawn the ire of team president Phil Jackson on multiple occasions this year, with Jackson publicly calling out the 32-year-old in the media and on Twitter.
BetOnline is offering a prop on where Anthony will end up, with the odds of him remaining with the Knicks at -205 and the chances of him finishing the campaign on any other team at +165.
Anthony possesses a no-trade clause, so the Knicks could be handcuffed before the February 23 deadline. The Cleveland Cavaliers, Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Clippers are said to be the teams that have the most interest in Melo, but his $29 million in remaining salary makes it difficult to find a trading partner.
While a change would likely benefit the Knicks, I don’t expect Anthony to be going anywhere this season. There are simply too many hurdles to overcome at this point, and I don’t truly believe that Anthony wants to leave the blue and orange just yet.
Which team will Carmelo Anthony be on for the final game of the regular season?
Odds as of February 15 at BetOnline
- New York Knicks -205
- Any other team +165
