Kentucky and North Carolina finished in a tie for No. 1 in the first coaches poll balloting of the 2015-16 season, with Maryland, Duke and Kansas rounding out the top five.
The Tar Heels earned one more first-place vote (12) than the Wildcats, but each team collected 749 points from the ballots of 32 Division I coaches. The Terps, Devils and Jayhawks were the only other teams to collect first-place votes.
