Villanova is still the No. 1 team in the country according to the coaches. But the Wildcats have a tough matchup this week.
In the newest edition of the coaches poll, Xavier rose from No. 7 up to No. 5, setting up a really fun matchup on Wednesday between the Musketeers and the Wildcats. It’s not the first top-five matchup we’ve seen this season, but it should be a good one that could bring the Big East title race just a little bit tighter.
Between those two teams, Kansas stayed at No. 2 with seven first-place votes to Villanova’s 25, followed by Virginia at No. 3 and Oklahoma at No. 4. Beyond Xavier at No. 5, North Carolina sits at No. 6, Michigan State is No. 7, Iowa is No. 8, Maryland fell four spots to No. 9, and Arizona rounds out the top-10.
The two biggest risers this week were Indiana and Baylor, each of whom rose six spots to No. 15 and No. 16 respectively. The biggest faller this week was Dayton, who after losing two games to St. Joseph’s and St. Bonaventure, dropped to No. 22. The newest team in the poll and only team to enter was Utah, who is now No. 23. The Utes replaced South Carolina, who fell to the nominal No. 26 spot after losing to Missouri earlier in the week.
