Cross Sport Super Bowl 51 Prop Bets

[ad_1]

Despite what most TV networks would have you believe, there are other sports played on Super Bowl Sunday and some books offer props on something specific that will happen in another sport compared to something that will happen in the Super Bowl. The most common representation of this is a number based “which will be higher” type wager.

Bovada has a variety of these available and I’ve broken down some of my favorite ones.

Basketball Props

With three NBA games on Super Bowl Sunday, the most popular cross-sports props at Bovada include a basketball angle. You can bet on whether Julio Jones will catch more balls than Kyle Lowry drops dimes or if Russell Westbrook can outscore the Patriots but let’s look into whether or not Julio can gain more yards through the air than the Boston Celtics can score points on Sunday.

The first thing to look at is each party’s average in their respective stat category. Julio averages 103.5 receiving yards per game since Week 1 while the Celtics put up an average of 108.1 points per game. Boston will be hosting a Clippers team that plays pretty good defense, allowing just 103.9 points per game. New England, however, has the best scoring defense in the NFL and Bill Belichick does an excellent job shutting down a team’s No. 1 option. Antonio Brown had just seven catches for just 77 yards in the AFC Championship and DeAndre Hopkins collected only six balls for 65 yards in the Patriots’ Divisional Round game.

You’re probably pretty safe to take the -140 line being offered for the Celtics here but beware, Julio has the ability to bust this bet anytime the Falcons are pinned deep. Jones has four catches of more than 20 yards since the start of the playoffs and if the Pats get their wires crossed at all in the defensive secondary, the Falcons’ not-so-secret weapon will burn them.

Football Across the pond

The Falcons and Patriots won’t be the only teams playing football on Sunday as Manchester United will take on the defending English Premier League champs before the Super Bowl kicks off. The prop here is what will be higher, Matt Ryan’s number of TD passes or the total number of goals scored in the United-Leicester footy match.

Ryan has been slinging the ball like the NFL’s MVP and he’s thrown at least three touchdowns in three straight games. The average total for Manchester United’s home games this year is 2.27 so this one is pretty even. My only incline here is that Leicester has been terrible defensively on the road this year and could get slaughtered by a United team that’s heating up. If the Pats’ defense is as good as everyone’s claiming they are, the English side of this prop bet should cash easily.
