Dean & Deluca Invitational Odds & Betting Preview

[ad_1]

With an exciting end to the AT&T Byron Nelson Championship in the rear-view mirror, the PGA TOUR shifts its focus to Fort Worth, Texas for the Dean & Deluca Invitational at Colonial Country Club.

When it comes to odds lists, Jordan Spieth is the +1100 favorite to go all the way. Jon Rahm (+1200), Sergio Garcia (+1400), Jason Dufner (+2500), Kevin Kisner (+2500), Matt Kuchar (+2500), Paul Casey (+2500), Bud Cauley (+3300), Marc Leishman (+3300) and Pat Perez (+3300) comprise the players with the 10 best chances to win the hardware.

Eight of the top 30 players in the world rankings will be making an appearance in the Lone Star State this weekend. Spieth will be looking to repeat after finally getting his first win in his home state a year ago at the event. The 23-year-old heated up on the back nine on Sunday to finish with a second consecutive 65 and a three-stroke victory over Harris English. The triumph was Spieth’s first win in 19 Texas starts, including a trio of runner-up finishes in 2015.

I’m not sure about backing him this time around, though. Spieth is coming off back-to-back missed cuts at THE PLAYERS and AT&T Byron Nelson – the first time he’s exited early in consecutive starts since doing so at The Barclays and Deutsche Bank Championship in 2015. Spieth has enough raw talent to make him a contender on any given weekend, but I’m not comfortable enough taking him at the current price due to his recent form.

Colonial, which is getting set to host its 72nd edition, is only bested by the renowned Augusta National for the longest unbroken tenure on the PGA TOUR schedule. The course is known for its various tight fairways and numerous doglegs (12 to be exact). Water is in play on six holes and the course is littered with tough fairway bunkers.

When it comes to key stats to concentrate on, the ability to scramble well and be solid on hitting greens in regulation is incredibly important. Seven of the last eight Dean & Deluca champions have ranked inside the top-10 for GIR and scrambling, and only Boo Weekley – the 2013 winner – is the only man since 1997 to rank worse than 18th for scrambling.

Here’s a look at the book’s full list of odds:
