Edrice Adebayo, a consensus top-10 basketball prospect from the Class of 2016, publicly committed to the University of Kentucky early Tuesday on national television.
“Whatever I need to do for Kentucky, I’ll do it,” Adebayo said.
Adebayo, a 6-foot-10 forward, is the fourth five-star prospect from the Class of 2016 to commit to the Wildcats. The others are point guard De’Aaron Fox, forward Wenyen Gabriel and forward Sacha Killeya-Jones. No other school currently has commitments from four five-star recruits, according to 247Sports. Adebayo picked Kentucky over N.C. State.
This puts UK in position to again have the nation’s top-ranked recruiting class.
The Wildcats have had the top-ranked recruiting class four times (2010, 2011, 2013, 2015) since John Calipari became their coach in April 2009, according to 247Sports. Kentucky has never had a recruiting class ranked lower than No. 2 nationally under Calipari, who was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame earlier this year.
