Washington men’s basketball just made a big splash at the end of the summer recruiting cycle.
On Friday night, while at the 10th annual Under Armour Elite24 event, five-star 2016 combo guard Markelle Fultz pledged his commitment to the Washington Huskies. Fultz, who plays high school ball at DeMatha Catholic in Hyattsville, Md., picked UW over Arizona and Louisville.
The commitment marks the biggest get for Lorenzo Romar since Washington landed four-star guard Nigel Williams-Goss in 2012. Fultz’s rise has been prominent and surprising, because he didn’t even make his varsity squad at DeMatha two years ago.
Washington was the last place Fultz had an official visit; he was in Seattle with Romar and his staff last week.
“My relationship with him is unbelievable,” Fultz said on television Friday night.
Fultz’s game has a lot of power and good decision-making. He’s listed at 6-foot-5 and approximately 180 pounds. A combo guard in the most modern, true sense of the term.
