Florida Gators freshman quarterback Will Grier has been suspended for the rest of the college football season as a result of a violation of NCAA rules.
Grier reportedly tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs. As a result of the test, an automatic suspension of one calendar year will be put in place by the NCAA which means the signal caller wouldn’t be able to return until the Gators’ seventh game of the 2016 campaign.
In a news conference on Monday, Grier stated the positive test came due to some over the counter medication he received that was not approved by the team’s trainers.
Florida, who is set to take on Louisiana State this weekend, is expected to turn to backup signal caller Treon Harris. The Gators initially opened as 5-point underdogs for the tilt but have been adjusted to +7.5 at 5Dimes at the time of writing.
The school is expected to appeal the suspension.
