Former Stanford coach Johnny Dawkins has reached an agreement in principle to become the next head coach at UCF, a source confirmed to CBS Sports.
A formal announcement is expected soon.
Stanford fired Dawkins last week after eight seasons that resulted in just one trip to the NCAA Tournament. His career record in the Pac-12 is 66-78. But the former Duke standout and Duke assistant still managed to land the UCF job — as ESPN.com reported earlier — less than a week after losing the Stanford job. And, it should be noted, UCF AD Danny White is the son of Duke AD Kevin White, if you’re looking for a Duke-UCF connection.
Dawkins replaces Donnie Jones.
Jones coached UCF for six seasons.
