Well over halfway to reclaiming his French Open throne, Rafael Nadal will take on his countryman Pablo Carreno-Busta in the quarterfinals at Roland Garros. Yet to lose a set, Rafa is in great shape against the 20th-seeded Carreno-Busta and sportsbooks have pegged him as a massive -3300 favorite.
– Shark BITES
- Nadal has a career 3-0 record against Carreno-Busta (2-0 on clay).
- This is Carreno-Busta’s best showing in 15 Grand Slam tournament appearances.
- Nadal is 21-1 on clay in 2017.
Making a case for Carreno-Busta in this spot is not easy. He’s really up against it in a matchup vs Nadal and that has a real David and Goliath feel to it. Rafa has been absolutely cruising to this point and it’s highly unlikely his fellow Spaniard takes him. I’ll be surprised if Nadal even loses a set and the smart money is likely on Nadal to win 3-0.
When assessing Carreno-Busta, you have to consider that Milos Raonic was not at his best when he met his usurper in the fourth round. The Canadian had been battling strep throat and was likely fighting at a level less than 100 percent.
Rafa has looked unstoppable since he took down the Aussie Open and betting against him right now – especially on clay – feels something of a fool’s errand.
