What a disaster season for the Diamondbacks. Possibly the biggest microcosm of that disaster was the signing of Zack Greinke, who has a bloated 4.54 ERA through 23 starts with Arizona. He gets the rock tonight to face Matt Moore and the San Francisco Giants in the final game of a three-game set that the Bay Area Bombers have taken the first two of.
- The computer has San Francisco winning this game by a score of 6.8-2.1.
- Arizona is 2-7 on the runline in their last 9 games at home.
- The Giants are 8-3 on the runline in their last 11 contests on the road.
Greinke was hit HARD in his last outing in his return to Dodger Stadium. He gave up five home runs and nine earned runs in tinsel town. He has, however, owned the Giants throughout his career as he owns a 9-1 record and 2.35 ERA against them in 13 total starts. Only three of those have come in a D-backs uniform, though, so the sample size of success against the Giants is much smaller this year.
Like Greinke, Matt Moore (9-11, 4.14 ERA) is also coming off a thumping. Moore’s performance is a little more excusable as it happened to come at Coors Field where almost everyone gets roughed up. Moore has been a better pitcher since being dealt to the Giants and owns a 3.56 ERA since the all-star break.
The Giants seem to have gotten out of the slump they found themselves in and still have a shot to reclaim the NL West crown if they get hot down the stretch.
