Golf Betting: FedExCup Betting Update

Jason Day is the new leader in the FedExCup standings and the favorite on the odds to win the second tournament of the PGA Tour’s playoff schedule this weekend, the Deutsche Bank Championship at TPC Boston.

Day beat Henrik Stenson by six strokes and Bubba Watson by eight strokes at The Barclays last week, dominating the field with rounds of 68, 68, 63, and 62 to grab the trophy and take the lead in the FedExCup points race.

So Day is now ahead of last week’s standings leader Jordan Spieth, who shot rounds of 74 and 73 over the first two days of The Barclays to miss the cut at the tournament. Day has 4,459 points, with Spieth second at 4,169 points.

For this week at TPC Boston the oddsmakers at Bodog have Day as the +600 tournament favorite, with Spieth tied for second with Rory McIlroy at +750 odds. McIlroy skipped The Barclays and fell from ninth to 15th in the FedExCup standings as a result.

Stenson and Dustin Johnson are then both at +1400 on the odds to win the Deutsche Bank Championship, with Justin Rose at +1600, Watson at +2000, and both Rickie Fowler and Zach Johnson at +3300. Louis Oosthuizen is in a group of golfers at +4000 at Bodog to win the Friday to Monday event.

The top 100 FedExCup points leaders after The Barclays advanced to the Deutsche Bank Championship, with the top 70 points leaders after this week then teeing it up in the BMW Championship at Conway Farms GC. The top 30 points leaders then advance to the Tour Championship at East Lake GC.

Jordan Spieth was the runaway leader in FedExCup points during the ‘regular season’ portion of the PGA Tour schedule, and he’s also the betting favorite at the sportsbooks to win the first event of the tour’s playoffs, The Barclays at Plainfield Country Club.

At Bodog Spieth is set as the +550 favorite on the odds to win The Barclays this week, after he won four tournaments – including two majors – and picked up 14 Top-10 results on the PGA Tour this past season. Spieth also enters the four-tournament playoff atop the World Golf Rankings.

Rory McIlroy, second in the World Golf Rankings, is skipping The Barclays this week, leaving Jason Day as the +900 second-favorite to win the tournament at the sportsbook. Dustin Johnson and Justin Rose are both at +1100, with Brooks Koepka and Bubba Watson at +2200. Johnson won The Barclays the last time it was held at Plainfield back in 2011.

Henrik Stenson and Rickie Fowler sit at +2500 on The Barclays odds at Bodog, with each of Jim Furyk, Paul Casey, and Matt Kuchar at +3300. Kuchar is also a past champion at the event, winning in 2010 when the tournament was held at Ridgewood Country Club.

The top 125 points leaders qualify for The Barclays, the first of four tournaments that settle the PGA Tour’s FedExCup playoff system. Along with McIlroy, Sergio Garcia, Louis Oosthuizen, Francesco Molinari, and Retief Goosen will also sit out this week, leaving the field at 120.

The top 100 points leaders after this week then move on to the Deutsche Bank Championship at TPC Boston, with the top 70 points leaders after that event teeing it up in the BMW Championship at Conway Farms GC. The top 30 points leaders then advance to the Tour Championship at East Lake GC.
