Holy $hit betting stat of the day: Hammel at his best versus Brewers

USA TODAY Sports

Chicago Cubs righty Jason Hammel has had a pretty good season up to this point (6-5, 3.17 ERA, 1.05 WHIP), but if he could face the Milwaukee Brewers every time out, he’d be in the conversation for the National League Cy Young award.

The 32-year-old is 7-0 in nine career starts against the Brew Crew (four starts with the Colorado Rockies, five starts with the Cubs) and boasts a 2.18 ERA and 1.12 WHIP in those starts. He’s allowed just 14 earned runs in 57.2 innings in those nine starts against the Cubbies’ NL Central rival and Hammel’s teams are 7-2 in those games.

The 2.18 ERA is easily the lowest against any opponent from around the entire league and the 7-0 record is second only to a 9-0 mark posted in 11 career starts against the Washington Nationals.

Hammel has faced the Brewers three times this season and is 2-0 with a 2.89 ERA. The Cubs are 2-1 in those three games.

He’s expected to take the bump at Wrigley Field against Matt Garza and Brewers Wednesday evening.
