Illinois’ Week 1 odds on the move after Beckman firing

USA TODAY Sports

The University of Illinois Fighting Illini have let head football coach Tim Beckman go amid allegations that he had been influencing medical decisions and pressuring players to play injured.

The decision has impact on the betting landscape as odds and futures alike are on the move.

“Interesting move by Illinois to fire their head football coach one week before the start of the season,” Michael Stewart of CarbonSports tells Covers. “Their Week 1 odds have moved from 15.5-point faves to 14-point favorites over Kent St.”

At BookMaker, the Illini went from -15.5 to -14.5 in the wake of the news. “In the collegiate ranks, turmoil often favors the other side,” a spokesperson from the book said.

Stewart also states that his book moved the Illini from 100/1 to 175/1 to win the Big 10.
