No matter how much you try to pay attention, there are some plays in basketball that get so wild there is no way to prepare yourself for the ultimate embarrassment: a ball to the face.
It happens to players all the time, resulting in a numb nose and maybe a few uncontrollable tears. Sometimes it happens to fans sitting courtside, including cheerleaders. One Iowa State cheerleader caught a deflection to the face in Friday’s game in Chicago, an 84-71 Virginia win.
She recovered nicely, but clearly dealt with the same shock and numbness that we all have dealt with in the same situation.
