Iowa State coach Fred Hoiberg will have open heart surgery next week to replace his aortic valve, the school announced Friday morning.
The procedure will be done next Friday at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota.
“After my initial surgery to replace my aortic root 10 years ago, I knew that this was something that would need to be done at some point,” Hoiberg said. “My valve has severe regurgitation and the time has come to get it replaced. I am hopeful that this will be my last surgery, and I’m looking forward to getting this behind me.”
Hoiberg just finished his fifth season at Iowa State.
He’s led the Cylcones to four straight NCAA Tournament appearances.
His career record as a coach is 115-56. He’s won back-to-back Big 12 Tournament titles.
