Kentucky announced on Monday night that junior guard Dominique Hawkins needs surgery in his right hand after breaking it in practice.
The injury came over the weekend.
Hawkins, who is a role player for the Wildcats, will miss approximately a month following his surgery on Tuesday. The point guard averaged eight minutes per game over the past two seasons.
“I really feel bad to have to report this because Dom was playing so well,” John Calipari is quoted in UK’s press release. “He was so much more confident, so much more skilled. There was no doubt he was in the rotation, and now he’s just got to get back and stay in shape. We’re looking forward to getting him back in November.”
Known as a defensive specialist, Hawkins will aim to be back on the floor for the start of UK’s season. The Wildcats open up at home against Albany on Nov. 13.
