Recovering from a torn ACL, Kentucky forward Alex Poythress is running and dunking in practice — though he’s still not active in live competition, John Calipari said Monday.

“He’s the key,” Calipari said of Poythress, who was injured in early December and missed the final three months last season.

The 6-foot-9 forward averaged 11.8 points and 5.7 rebounds during a six-game exhibition summer tour of the Bahamas in 2014. He averaged 5.5 points and 3.8 rebounds in eight games last season.

Kentucky (38-1 in 2014-15) lost to Wisconsin in the Final Four last season and projects as a top-five team to start 2015-16.
