Kansas does the throwback better than any team in college basketball. (Remember these, and these, and these?)
The next great KU uniform will be brought out on Feb. 23 — next Tuesday — for KU’s home game against Baylor. The school, in conjunction with Adidas, has announced it will wear the threads you see above. The uniforms are being brought back in honor of Black History Month. These were (basically) what Kansas players wore in the 1950s.
“Designed with royal blue and cream tones, the jerseys feature classic block lettering and numbers used during basketball’s early years,” per Kansas’ release. “The jersey includes crimson, blue and white accents, while the shorts feature a two-color stripe as a nod to Kansas’ classic look and feel.”
It’s a very slick way to honor Black History Month. I love the waistband on the shorts, in particular.
The dark-blue road unis will be for the Baylor game. The white ones will be worn for Kansas’ home tilt against Texas Tech on Feb. 27. Those faded-gold shoes are a nice touch to decades gone by as well.
If Kansas fans love these as much as I do, they’ll be glad to hear replicas of these throwbacks will be available at retailers soon.
