Soccer bettors are able to branch back out to Europe again with the Premier League season underway and the Bundesliga getting going this weekend. Here’s a look at some of the top betting matchups on the schedule for the week ahead . . .
Aston Villa vs Manchester United
Aston Villa is off to a solid start to the EPL season with a 1-0 road win over Bournemouth in their opener. The Villans have not had much success against the top teams in the Premier League in the last few seasons, though, and they are a big home underdog facing Manchester United. Man Utd was at home in their opener beating a solid Tottenham squad 1-0. However, while the United defense was solid in their win their offense was stymied and the only score in the match was an own goal in the first half.
Aston Villa is posted at +450 at Bet365 for this matchup with Manchester United at -163 and a draw line of +275.
Manchester City vs Chelsea
Chelsea played to a surprising 2-2 home draw in their opening match facing Swansea and they are the road underdog facing a Man City squad that won their season opener 3-0 at West Ham. City’s offense will be a handful for the Chelsea defense and if the Blue play like they did against Swansea they will lose badly. Chelsea was also a little lucky to come out with a draw in their match, as one of their goals came on an own goal.
Bet365 has Manchester City with EPL odds of +105 for this game with Chelsea at +260 and a draw of +250.
Werder Bremen vs Schalke 04
Both Werder Bremen and Schalke 04 have high hopes this season and after a slow start Schalke 04 ended last season well finishing in sixth place in the Bundesliga table. Werder finished 10th and they look to, at least, qualify for the Europa League with a top-eight finish this season. Werder had a good attack last year, but their defense struggled and for the season they conceded 15 more goals than they scored. Last season Schalke 04 scored 42 goals and conceded 40.
Schalke 04 is the road favorite at Bet365 posted at +130 for this contest with Werder at +200 and a draw line at +240.
Borussia Dortmund vs B. Monchengladbach
B. Monchengladbach was the surprise of the Bundesliga last season, as they finished in third place in the league table and automatically qualified for the Champions League. On the other side of the coin Dortmund was one of the bigger disappointments finishing in seventh position after finishing second in the previous two seasons. The reason that B. Monchengladbach had such a solid season was their defense, which should be the strength of the squad again this season, conceded the second fewest goals in the league.
At Bet365 Dortmund is the big home favorite with odds of -150 for this matchup with B. Monchengladbach at +400 and a draw line of +280.
