Maryland beats UConn at MSG, remains fourth in Top 25 (and one)

Maryland’s Melo Trimble scored 25 points in Tuesday’s 76-66 win over Connecticut at New York’s Madison Square Garden. The sophomore point guard is now averaging 15.6 points and 5.4 rebounds. Maryland is ranked fourth in the updated CBS Sports Top 25 (and one).

UConn?

I kept the Huskies ranked 26th because there’s no sense in penalizing a team for losing a competitive game — Maryland-Connecticut was a one-possession contest with less than three minutes left — to a higher-ranked team on a neutral court. Yes, the Huskies are just 5-3. But the three losses are to teams ranked higher than them — namely Maryland, Syracuse and Gonzaga. So the resume is solid … or at least devoid of a bad loss.
