World No. 1 golfer and Masters favorite Dustin Johnson has taken a serious fall on a staircase on the eve of the Masters, according to an email from Johnson’s agent, David Winkle.
Johnson reportedly suffered the fall on the stairs of his rental home and injured his lower back in Augusta, Georgia on Wednesday. At the time of writing, Johnson was resting with discomfort. He’s officially questionable to compete in the renowned tournament as a result.
Winkle said DJ has been advised to remain immobile and begin a regimen of anti-inflammatory medication and icing with the hope of playing on Thursday. Less than an hour after the news broke, Bovada hadn’t changed the oddsboard with Johnson remaining as the front-runner at +550.
The reigning U.S. Open champion, Johnson has won three straight starts dating back to the Genesis Open which has caused him to eclipse Jason Day as the top-ranked golfer in the world.
This is not the first time Johnson has been injured in a freak accident in Augusta. In 2012 he was forced to withdraw from the Masters after hurting his back lifting a jet-ski.
