Michigan State beat Maryland 74-65 on Saturday night thanks to some great play late in the game from senior forward Matt Costello.
Costello had 15 points and 12 rebounds in the win, joining Denzel Valentine (19 points, 13 rebounds) as Spartans with double-doubles in the huge home victory against the Terps. He delivered with a key block, rebound and two free throws in the final 17 seconds as the highlighter green-clad Spartans sealed the biggest win of the Big Ten season so far.

Fellow senior Bryn Forbes led all scorers with 25 points. Melo Trimble led Maryland with 24 points, seven rebounds and three assists.
Michigan State is back to .500 at 4-4 in Big Ten play with the victory, ending a three-game losing streak and giving Tom Izzo some juice for a team that has been slumping here in January. The win was also historic for Izzo, as it moved him into a tie for second place behind Bobby Knight for the most wins at a Big Ten school.
For Maryland, the loss is a disappointing setback but nothing that they can dwell on with Iowa coming to College Park on Thursday night. No ground was lost by losing on the road to the Spartans, but a win against the Hawkeyes would go a long way in giving the Terps a resume to match its current talent level.
