Floyd Mayweather Jr. has been set as the betting favorite at the sportsbooks for his long-awaited but not yet official fight against Manny Pacquiao proposed for Saturday, May 2 at the MGM Arena in Las Vegas.
Online sportsbook Bodog has Mayweather listed as the -300 favorite for the proposed superfight, with Pacquiao the +230 underdog for the bout. Mayweather has a 47-0 record in his career with 26 knockouts, while Pacquiao is 57-5-2 with 38 knockouts on his resume.
Negotiations for a Mayweather vs. Pacquiao matchup date all the way back to 2009, with the boxers having never been able to settle on the terms of the fight. Pacquiao has now accepted terms for the bout set out by Mayweather – but Mayweather has yet to officially sign on with a reported January 31 deadline for an agreement looming.
Pacquiao last fought in November 2014 when he earned a unanimous decision win against Chris Algieri at The Venetian Macao to retain his WBO Welterweight title. That was Pacquiao’s third straight win since he dropped back-to-back fights to Timothy Bradley and Juan Manuel Marquez in 2012.
Mayweather ran his record to 47-0 in September 2014 with a unanimous decision win over Marcos Maidana at the MGM Grand to retain the WBA Super, WBC, and The Ring Welterweight titles as well as the WBC Light Middleweight title. Mayweather also beat Maidana in May 2014 in a majority decision victory.
