The BYU Cougars will be making their first appearance in a Florida-based bowl game in 29 years when they take on the Memphis Tigers in the inaugural Miami Beach Bowl.
The Cougars last played in a Florida bowl in 1985, when they lost 10-7 to Ohio State in the Citrus Bowl. The Cougars are 9-11-1 SU in bowl games since then, and 4-0 SU in their last four. After compiling their first winning record in seven years, the Tigers will be making just their seventh bowl appearance in the history of the program, and will be looking for their first SU bowl victory since 2005.

[ Miami Beach Bowl Matchup Stats | BYU vs Memphis Betting Preview ]
Miami Beach Bowl Betting Trends: BYU is 4-1 SU and ATS in their last five bowl games . . . This is the first bowl game appearance for Memphis since 2008 . . . BYU is 3-1 ATS in their last four bowl games when pegged as an underdog.
Following a shaky 3-3 SU start, the Memphis Tigers won six straight SU to record their first winning season since 2007, finishing 9-3 overall and 7-1 in AAC conference play to claim their first conference championship since 1971. But despite the success, the Tigers have been a betting disappointment, going 4-5 ATS in their last nine.
However, Memphis looked dominant in their last outing, topping Connecticut 41-10 as 23.5-point favorites, and have averaged 35.7 points per game in their last six. The Cougars will be making a bowl appearance for a 10th straight season after winning their last four SU to finish the regular season at 8-4.
Like the Tigers, the Cougars have failed to reward bettors consistently this season, going 5-7 ATS including a mid-season stretch of six straight ATS losses, but are 3-1 ATS in their last four, and 2-2 SU and ATS in four games as underdogs this season.
