Microscopic totals can’t contain Kershaw, Under – 08-22-2014

Oddsmakers tried 6.5, then 6 and finally resorted to a
total of 5.5 in Thursday night’s game between the Los Angeles
Dodgers and San Diego Padres, but even that was not low enough
to keep the Under from cashing with Clayton Kershaw on the
mound.

The Under has hit in three-straight Kershaw starts and five
of the last six. On the season, Kershaw’s Over/Under record
is 8-12-1.

Fueled by a miniscule 1.82 ERA and an equally-impressive 0.83
WHIP, the southpaw has a personal record of 15-3 and has
fanned 184 batters in his 153 1/3 innings of work.

If 5.5 isn’t low enough, would books ever go to 5?

“If we feel we need to, we will but for me, I’d prefer using
5.5 under minus some decent juice,” Michael Stewart, an
oddsmaker with
CarbonSports.ag
tells Covers.

“It really depends on the pitching matchup too. He’s facing
the D-backs in his next start and scheduled to pitch against
Wade Miley, who currently has an ERA over four runs. Tough to
open up a total at 5 runs when the opposing pitcher is giving
up an average of over four runs a game.

“But no question, we’ll factor in Kershaw’s epic run right
now as well as how our bettors are betting him when he’s on
the mound. We’re seeing more under money when he’s pitching
and that money has been cashing.”
