Military Bowl Betting Trends: Five of six Military Bowls played OVER the total . . . Cincinnati 3-8 ATS past 11 bowl games . . . Cincinnati ended year on seven-game win streak, 6-0-1 ATS.

The Bearcats scored 34 points or more in six of their final seven games, while holding their opponents to an average of 16.7 points a game. This unit did give up 46 points in a wild eight-point win against East Carolina and it was tagged for 31 points in a seven-point victory over Houston in their season finale. Quarterback Gunner Kiel eclipsed the 3,000-yard mark in passing yards on the year in that game. Cincinnati was 6-2-1 ATS this season as a favorite and 4-2 ATS in six games away from home.

Another promising start for Virginia Tech that included a stunning 35-21 victory over Ohio State in Week 2 as a 10-point road underdog once again ended in the disappointment of a .500 SU record. The Hokies did pay off as underdogs this season with a 3-1 mark ATS in the four games in which they were getting points.

Military Bowl Betting Trends: Maryland are 5-1 ATS in their last six bowl appearances . . . The favorites have won SU in the last five editions of the Military Bowl . . . Marshall are 7-2 ATS in their last nine bowl appearances.

The Marshall Thundering Herd were riding high going into this season’s Conference USA Championship Game. The Herd posted SU wins in seven of their final eight regular season games, with their only loss resulting from a TD scored on the final play of their game against Middle Tennessee. But despite being 6-point favorites in the C-USA title game, Marshall were soundly beaten by the Rice Owls, 41-24, denying them a Liberty Bowl berth. The Maryland Terrapins started their season with four consecutive wins SU and ATS, briefly earning them their first-ever national ranking. The Terrapins struggled down the stretch before finishing the season with a convincing 41-21 win over North Carolina State to maintain their bowl game eligibility. Marshall holds the edge in offensive categories, but are a weak 1-5-1 ATS this season. The Terrapins have managed only 26.67 points per game this season, but the OVER in their games is 8-4 overall, and 6-2 in their last eight.

Heading into the Military Bowl, the Air Force Falcons are 2-0 SU and ATS in their last two bowl games, beating Georgia Tech 14-7 in 2010 and Houston 47-20 in 2009.

But this game has been fairly predictable in its short life span as the favorites have won all three games and all three have also gone OVER the total.

Expect plenty of fireworks in the nation’s capital in this year’s Military Bowl as two offensively talented teams in the Toledo Rockets and Air Force Falcons face off. This game is one of only four this bowl season to feature a total of 70 or more points.

The Toledo Rockets finished the season ranked eighth in the nation in scoring offense with 42.3 points per game, averaging 52.8 points over their final five games of the season. Air Force finished 22nd in the nation with 34.4 points per game and second in the nation in rushing yards with 320.3 per game. Both teams finished the season strong as Air Force won four of its last five (3-2 ATS) and Toledo won seven of its last eight (5-3 ATS).

Junior wide receiver Eric Page was a consistent threat for the Rockets offense all season long. Page hauled in 112 catches for 1,123 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Maryland earned a berth in the 2010 Military Bowl compliments of a turnaround season. Most books acknowledge the stronger Terrapins with a 7.5-point edge in college football betting when they meet up with the East Carolina Pirates.

Danny O’Brien is coming into this bowl game with a ton of confidence after throwing for 417 yards with four touchdowns against No. 21-ranked North Carolina State in the season finale. The team managed a third-place finish behind Virginia Tech and Florida State in the ACC.

O’Brien will be the central part of the Terrapins’ offense, as the freshman threw for 2,257 yards with 21 touchdowns and only six interceptions in a stellar season. His main target will be Torrey Smith, who had 12 TD catches for 1,045 yards His – good enough for a share of the conference lead.

D.J. Adams was a surprise element on the ground for Maryland, running for seven touchdowns in only seven games with just 194 yards rushing. If the Terrapins can control time of possession against the worst defense in the nation in East Carolina then expect a lot of college football betting enthusiasts to wager in favor of the Terrapins.

However, a big point spread in the Military Bowl odds against a powerful East Carolina offense could prove to be dangerous. The Pirates averaged 319.3 yards receiving with 37 touchdowns, and if it’s on then underdog bettors at Sports Interaction could be in for a profitable wager. Quarterback Dominique Davis shattered records with 3,699 yards passing with 36 TD passes.

Dwayne Harris had a conference-high 93 catches for 1,055 yards with 10 touchdowns.

NCAAF odds stack high against OVER bettors with a total set at 68, but the Pirates are almost a lock for totals bettors with nine of 12 games paying out to the OVER.
